Most Beautiful Miss Universe: 48th place – Miss Universe 1982 Karen Baldwin of Canada

Miss Universe 1982, the 31st annual edition of the pageant, was held at the Coliseo Amauta, in Lima, Peru on July 26, 1982. 77 contestants competed in the pageant and 18-year-old Karen Dianne Baldwin of Canada won the first Miss Universe title for her country.

Although not a major favorite, Karen’s unquestionable beauty and elegance, and pleasant personality, made the crowd and press approve her unexpected victory. In other words, she was a positive surprise, and a very good Miss Universe.

After crowning her successor in 1983, Karen hosted The New You, a Canadian fashion and lifestyle television program and was one of the co-hosts for the 1989 Miss Universe pageant, held in Cancun, Mexico. She was also featured in the 1987 movie Who’s That Girl starring Madonna and Griffin Dunne as ‘Heather’, one of the kidnapped bridesmaids. Miss Universe 1982 now works as a film producer. Baldwin had two kids and divorced still in the 1980′s.
